Every time <29+1> opened I have heard people saying how moved they are by the production. So I gave myself a few excuses to go this time: 1) it is the last run; 2) i am reaching 29+1 myself not too long from now; 3) simply curious why all the waves about it.
By the time I decided to go all tickets are sold out, had to ask a theatre friend to get me a ticket but she warned me I wouldnt like it for it being… shallow and loose. Turned out she is right, not only that I think it is shallow… I actually think it’s boring and wanna nod off a few times. There are gags, lots of daily gags that easily provoke’s collective feeling/ memory, but that’s nothing memorable about it. It’s not smart nor wise either.
But then I understand how it got so popular especially among (what my friend calls) the OL audience. The number “29+1” itself is a radioactivity bomb for HK women, whatever you say about the subject is going to move them.
Rather than being inspired by the show I was more moved by the audience’s notes on the programme. As for me I dont feel too much about turning 30, especially after some funny talks with friends last week. I honestly wish I have buttons I can press on my body, but I dont. So, just be it.
